This is a spider alert; if you are not comfortable with the eight legged freaks, keep going.
Betsy the spider has been doing a little work under the table (eating Parmesan cheese crumbs).
Betsy's treasure chest is an altered tea box with removable dividers. One coat of red paint outside and in, and then I tried to distress the outside with black paint ~ oops! A full coat of black paint was applied to the outside to hide the mess. Then flocked spider paper and damask paper were cut to size, and glued to the outside panels. Note to self: next time mark where the hardware screw holes are BEFORE covering the panels with paper. (aaagghhh)
I tried to stamp the spider web directly on the glass but it didn't work out so I stamped and embossed on craft plastic. To cover the edges of the craft plastic, I glued long braids of fun yarn on the side of the glass window both outside and in.
The shiny hardware was dirtied up with alcohol inks and then came the difficult task of locating the hidden screw holes under the paper.
I coloured most of the clear acrylic jewels with alcohol ink to imitate emeralds, rubies and sapphires. The ones that were not coloured look like diamonds.
