This is NOT a neighbourhood watch house. Of course, you do have to wonder who would live here with smashed windows, a skull on the ledge and a pretty pot of flowers. The flowers could be silk or plastic. Either way, don't stop here on your trick or treat route. (It says death over the window for crying out loud!)
The image was coloured with chalks which I use infrequently. The pictures don't show the colours clearly but some of the chalks are shimmers, like eye makeup. Does anyone know how to seal the chalks so they stop rubbing off on your fingers?
rubber stamp: Smeared Ink rubber stamp set "Morte" by Rick St. Dennis
chalks: Pebbles Inc. I kan' dee (earth tones and shimmers)
cardstock, ribbon, scrabble letters: stash
I'm sorry, I have no idea how to seal chalk. I've never used it to color an image, just for background. I love how you colored it. Soft and muted make it look so creepy.
ReplyDeleteSo love this stamp and you did such a wonderful job w/ the card. Great dimension and you are inspiring me to get those chalks out. But like any neive girl walking by a spooky house of death, she must enter....
ReplyDeleteThe looking alive and well flowers are quite the contrast to the rest.
ReplyDeleteI don't know details but I believe there are spray over sealers for chalk.
Nice image! I don't have much experience in chalks, but I heard you can fix it with hairspray (keep a distance of at least 12 inches) - but better test it before! I already have used hairspray several times for prints and it worked well - after short time it doesn't even smells like hairspray .. it's worth a try

Great window project, love the use of the scrabble tiles!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for using my Image from SI and what a great job you did I lovethe subtle colours the chalk add-so vintage-to seal chalk or pastels you should use a spray ealer-I like Americana Matte Spray Sealer Finsiher by DECO ART- Mist a light coat on from about 12 inches to stabilize the chalk surface -let dry and then add another 2 or 3 mistings till you have a nice sealed surface on your piece drying between coats-(about 15 minutes for alight mist-let dry overnight in a dry clean area then add one good even coat of the spray to protect the entire piece-this product is crystal clear and does not yellow-hope this helps-Do NOT use hair spray-the ones that worked were laquer based-yellowed and got sticky-water based hair spray is always waterbased so they react badly to dampness
ReplyDeleteThanks for the details on how to seal chalks, I appreciate you taking the time to leave this message. I will add the Deco Art spray sealer to my USA shopping trip list.
DeleteI'm not trick or treating there, that's for sure! Love this and the scrabble tiles ROCK! xxD
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool card. Love that stamp...awesome design. Love your twill (?) and the scrabble letters sentiment. Great commentary! I would definitely avoid this house on All Hallows Eve!
ReplyDeleteawesome card love the colors
ReplyDeleteLOL, yep, staying clear of this house is a good plan, but oh man, what if they've got REALLY good candy, what a dilemma LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool house. Love the scrabble tiles on the side. When I color with chalks, I use Grumbacher Matte Final Fixative spray for Pastel, Charcoal and Pencils. It's non-yellowing and will keep the chalk from rubbing off. You can also use Aqua Net Hairspray.
ReplyDeleteLove your card!!! That image by Rick is fabulous!!! Love the scrabble tiles that you used! Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, love the softer look that chalk gives.
ReplyDeleteneighbourhood watch!!! fabulous card! love it! mo x
ReplyDeleteI seal anything I do in chalk with hairspray (aerosol). I travel with my chalk and it would be too much to travel with both fixative and hairspray! GREAT card... love the image Morte!!! And I won't be stopping at this place at anytime in the future!
