I have found the box that Uncle Fester uses to hide his "going out" toupee. It looks like a gift box with purple, copper ribbons, highlights of copper paint and some black ribbons.
The box lid has mysterious symbols imprinted onto the purple and highlighted with copper. Maybe these symbols are a recipe or spell for hair growth.
Uncle Fester's toupee looks like faux fur but don't tell him that, he is very sensitive. Now I must go hide this behind the head cheese where I found it.
The round box is a recycled Happy Cow cheese container.
Texture paste was spread on the lid and an assortment of stamps were impressed into the surface and set aside to dry. (this took longer than you would think)
The lid and round box were painted purple and the lid detail was highlighted with copper. The edges of the lid and base were covered with black grosgrain ribbon.
Inside the box two holes were punched for the copper sheer ribbon that will tie the box closed. The inside walls were lined with spiderweb paper and the bottom covered in faux fur.
If I were to do this again, I would reinforce the side walls with duct tape which would also give a textured surface. The carboard has weaked and the box lid is a very snug fit.
I would also try duct tape on the lid so the texture paste wouldn't seep into carboard, hopefully reducing the drying time.
That texture paste sounds fun to work with. Thanks for the tip on the duck tape. Uncle Fester has the best hair box ever!
ReplyDeleteSince Happy cows really do come from Wisconsin....
ReplyDeleteyou know I feel an unnatural attachment to this project. And you can never go wrong with duct tape.
As is you did a wonderful job!
I bet Uncle Fester brought it back from the Bermuda Triangle. That is an awesome toupee box. Wonderful texture and thanks for the deets on how it was done.
ReplyDeleteUncle festers hair piece is a bit flat, but what can you expect when he hides it behind the head cheese!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great project. Uncle Fester really needs to find a new place to hide is toupee. Behind the head cheese is smelly.. I love the texture on the lid It's a great recycled project.
ReplyDeleteROTFLMAO! I've seen a couple of pretty bad rugs in my time, but this one takes the cake. Got a kick out of the "hair growth" spell. Perhaps I should suggest this to the hubby. I totally LOVE this and thanks for the altering tips. xxD
ReplyDeleteWhen I come across thin cardboard I glue on a layer of BRISTOL BOARD usually vellum finish-its easy to work with-ten I paint on 2 layers of Acrylic Gesso over the entire box and let it dry up to 36 hours-It should be firm and ready for anything-I don't sand my gesso because the paint catches better on unsanded surfaces on Paper-hope this helps sometime...:-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tips, I'll definitely try them on the next project I attempt with the texture paste.
DeleteLMAO what a brilliant little hair box, that's so wicked funny!
